The Further Reach of Wayside
At our most remote pasture, in a gully no one else will see, my youngest son and I spent a full Saturday afternoon clearing noxious weed blooms from the landscape. Hauling three buckets of picked thistle blooms back to the truck, I examine the grass stand and wonder why it shows so much grazing wear. The grazing cage monitoring report later reveals the most significant reduction of grass heights of anywhere on the ranch, here on the further reach of wayside. Maybe next spring will give us both a second chance. I pledge to bring my hoe and make a difference.
