When Barns Take the Spotlight
Once considered outbuildings of utilitarian purpose, barns now are seen in a more aesthetic light. My sister returned recently from a barn tour where one owner had spent $350,000 refurbishing an old barn. Like beauty remains in the eye of the beholder, how much one appreciates these old structures sometimes comes down to willingness to reinvest. Our senior rancher claims that a good roof will allow any building to stand the test of time. A new coat of paint every now and then never hurt either. This bouquet of lazy daisies was plucked and paired with wispy asparagus fronds to be featured on the cover of my debut book, Redeeming River Rancher. The publisher chose a gate scene instead, but I favor this old wheelbarrow, which is bartered into active duty from time to time. Old barns and old equipment never run out of usefulness. Even rust can be admired.
